Jean-François Richet

Jean-François Richet’s youth in a city housing project outside Paris and working in a factory formed the basis and perspective for his early work, and his first film, “État des lieux,” which was nominated for Best Debut at the César Awards. He went on to remake the classic John Carpenter film “Assault on Precinct 13,” an action thriller starring Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fisburne. He further cemented reputation for high-energy storytelling with the ambitious two-part film “Mesrine,” starring Vincent Cassel and based in part on the autobiography by French gangster Jacques Mesrine, which took home Best Actor and Best Director at the Césars.
